From my experience it's more realistic than most other games, as it's much harder, and I've not had any problems following real world tactics. The eye catches movement very easily, so make sure you are not moving until they look away. If you sit still in some grass at a reasonable distance they wont spot you. If you are going to get real close you better not find your self in their line of sight.
As i understand it stealth works better during the night, and then even better if you have the camo suit.

As long as it's night and you crouch on long grass you are almost invisible. During the day grass or no grass, they'll spot you. The whole idea of the creats is to have day weapons and night weapons and then have the bed to switch to which time of day you want. I always did everything at night. Traveling via the waterways.

In my experience the stealth is good... even in the day, if you crouch and move slow in the grass you are good to go. I have often snuck up on a camp or building and attacked with my supressed MP5 to good effect.

The problem I have is the enemies insane accuracy from a distance. If they spot you they will tear you a new ass from 100 yards away, even with a shotgun.

That's why I always carried the dart rifle AND the SVD. One to start the fight and one to finish. All at a distance.

That type of strategy is the beauty of this of game, and I bet most never thought of it that way. I tend to play during the day my self, and pick the hours with the lighting and mood I want.

In the pic below there was a guard post on the hill to my left, so I snuck up here, dropped three grenades on the other shore, then swam over there under fire to take over the mounted gun and kill the guard post I had bypassed. I then stole a truck and moved on.

The game's a lot more fun if you can play each encounter in the moment, like it's the first time.

I Agree totally

I had such a moment when i was using the M79 grenade launcher...a truck came speeding towards me,so i shot a grenade into the grill of the truck and sent in flying over my head and down a hill

I'm at 62% and it's still awesome.

I did the battery. Nice fadeout.

I might have to load up a save and try the briefcase...
