at night i had absolutely no problems looking around, i was like "WTF!, there is no darkness". STALKER nights were so much darker.
Its weird you are having this issue.

It might be a CRT vs. LCD issue... I know when I used to use a CRT HDTV for my 360 everything was dark as hell, but then when I got my LCD everything looked fine. Modern games seem to have their darkness levels balanced for LCDs.

I'm using a Samsung 32" with 10000:1 contrast and its still so dark that i can barely see anything.
its an engine lighting problem and not a screen issue , otherwise how come all other games look just fine at night times/dark areas?

It's not an engine problem... on my comp the night time is actually very bright, a little too much so.

I had more problems with contrast during the day.

There isn't any reflected\ambient light so if there is a bright spot of sunlight in a room the rest of the room is extremely dark and the HDR exaggerates it even more.

I had to mess with the contrast and brightness settings quite a bit to get it to look ok and give decent visibility. Either everything was the same flat color and it was hard to see or everything was white or black. I never had this problem with the lighting in Crysis. It looked better and always gave good visibility.

I'm still messing with the contrast and gamma. They should have one of those screens that say "This should be barely visible."

If you were out at night in Africa away from a city you would barely be able to see a few feet in front of you.

I finally spent a little time playing this today. I had fun. I was a little annoyed that people didn't die when I shot them. Sometimes after being shot by a high caliber mounted machine gun they got back up. Coming from COD:WaW where people get shredded to pieces by MG fire it's annoying to see people barely harmed by a mounted MG.

Exactly .. it seems more of an ambient lighting issue especially during the day.

i guess some people not noticing it is a matter of eye sensitivity ..

I moved the contrast and gamma way down and now the game looks great. At night it should be very very dark. If you've ever been away from city lights and walked outside at night you know what I mean.

I was very disappointed that the bus is basically a teleporter. I thought it would be like taxi's in GTA IV.

And unlike GTA IV the actual driving from place to place is not fun. It would be cool if you had to lose enemy jeeps chasing you. Or it would be nice if you could shoot while driving.

Another issue is that enemies should only confront you when you get to your mission. If I drive across the map I need to pass like 3 enemy checkpoints just to get to my mission.

Am I doing something wrong? Maybe if I drive a regular car instead of a jeep with a mounted gun I wouldn't get so much attention?
