I'm with you on this. Many individuals who work with Microsoft OS's on the enterprise level share the same sentiments.

Windows Vista SP2 is actually Windows 7. I bet new kernel for Windows Vista SP2 is going to be the same as in Windows 7.

Actually there is nothing illegal regarding this, Windows Updates itself to SP2 if you just do a registry hack. There is not crack or illegal method needed to obtain the update... Sure MS only wanted a closed group to get the update but if they really thought it was wrong that others were getting it then I dout thehotfix.net would host or allow the files on their forum.

This whole thing is just a big yawn to me. Absolutely nothing exciting in the new SP2 according to anything I've read so I certainly won't be beta testing it privately .

Anyway, just thought I'd point out that just because the update is 500MB+ doesn't mean they have re-written a lot. If they just change even one character in the code of one of the files then the whole file has to be updated and given a new version number. I don't think SPs actually edit many of the existing files on your computer. Therefore a 500MB+ update doesn't really tell you much of anything about how much has changed... other than there were probably a lot of little changes at least.
