Should I buy the box so I can re-sell later, or does this have a bunch of annoying DRM things attached?

Seems like the city areas run pretty bad. The framerates really aren't bad but everything just gets sluggish and jerky when there are enemies and lots of buildings. Exactly like Oblivion.
I'm running at all settings maxed at 1600x1200, no AA, 16xAF. I get 35-85fps but the framerate fluctuates wildly once you get into an area with lots of buildings, and regardless of the frame rate the mouse lags so much that aiming is very difficult. I just ended up waiting until VATS was available because I couldn't hit anything due to mouse lag. That is the reason I can't stand playing Oblivion any more and its enough to completely put me off Fallout 3 for the time being. Gamebryo strikes again...

Oblivion is one of my favourite games along with halflife and I love Bioshocks soundtrack.
This looks like the perfect game and the most anticipated game since I found Oblivion was not being expanded anymore. Give me desperation, give me apocalyptic, give me dark moody wastelands. Stalker did a bit of this but the interface sucked, the fact most of the text wasn't spoken by characters irrated me - i'm presuming a full voice cast has been done for this? I only seen the most recent screenshots yesterday and thought it would be a couple more years off yet, but its out tomorrow in UK! I CANNOT WAIT! ![]()

aha, so you don't like to read more detailed info, dialog. instead you preffer everyone to say say the same old one linners like it was one in Oblivion. everyone saying the samething over and over again.

Just thought I would share my two cents:
STEAM: It took me 7-8 hours to download the game yesterday, totally not cool on Steam's part. I could understand having problems 2, maybe 3 hours after release but 12 hours after release and there are still issues with bandwidth? Come on! Good thing my wife had work that required my assistance, so I could stay awake and watch the percentage go extremely slow. I wonder how much money Valve lost due to refunds yesterday? FALLOUT 3: Now I *like* Oblivion, it's a great concept but the medieval times just doesn't appeal to me like it used to. I like the RPG and 1st person elements of the game, but there have been times where I was impatient so I may have missed a few parts of the game. The story finally lost me due to BOREDOM. But now we have a Oblivion-like game that has a better story line . . . so I'll bite. I was interested in the story line, the VATS system and just the overall feel of the game. Most of the reviews pushed me over the edge to buy it yesterday, just two hours before release. GAMEPLAY: Gameplay (controls) is very Oblivion-like, not as "slow" as other people have been claiming. One thing that sucked right off the bat is the tutorials did NOT give me a good, educated overview of the controls, the Pip-boy 3000 or anything else for that matter. By the time that I escaped from the Vault, I had hardly NO idea how to use the Pip-Boy 3000, weapons switching system, VATS system (I killed the roach with the BB gun normally), or a few other things I can't remember. But hey, once you stare at the PB3000 for a few minutes, things get a little more clear. I haven't really gotten into the combat system too much so I can't comment much more on gameplay. GRAPHICS/AUDIO: Audio is great, no complaints here. The graphics are pretty good, but I'm a little disappointed in the Graphics settings. Why can't I change the resolution or optimize the graphics like every other game? How can I tell that I'm running at 1680x1050? What about AA/AF? I'm guessing the settings are outside of the game? Overall, this game should be pretty fun. The story line has hooked me in and I'm actually interested. Maybe I'll get time tonight to play it for an hour or two. I need to get back into FC2 . . . |

There are hours upon hours of unique speech in Oblivion. Stalker not having even a lot of the main quest lines spoken just smacked of no real effort put into it.

I got about two hours in last night, and had about 4 crashes total. i'm still running 178.24 and 180.43 (installed on my laptop too).
On my main rig, Its running at "ultra high" settings and plays fine however when I got out of the vault I had a CTD. Than while going to this town, another CTD after about 1hr into it I started experiencing random microstutter/jerkiness. I alt-tabbed and saw nothing was running came back to the game and still had this microstutter/jerkiness very similar to FC2 when played at DX10. This game plays exactly like Oblivion, its hard not to deny that. Last edited by Roliath; 10-29-08 at 11:40 AM. Reason: Made Driver corrections, dunno where my head was. |

I think the comments on that forum are a bit too cynical though. I didn't go into this expecting a masterpiece, but it seems like a decent game with some very irritating flaws, just like Oblivion.

It was hyped and the reviews were good, but I'm enjoying the game so far. I don't see what the big deal is.
Because a new PC game doesn't raise the Crysis bar, it automatically sucks. That's what everyone has been *****ing about here lately. |
