Those settings were around in Oblivion and didn't seem to have any positive effects.

As I said in an earlier post, Fallout 3 uses both cores rather well without tweaking. In task manager my cores were both fluctuating around 60-90% in one area.

Well... it's a good game. It's not a great game, and perhaps not as good as I hoped or expected, being an Elder Scrolls fan, but it IS a good game.

I find the graphics more impressive than I thought I would. I expected "consolized" graphics but instead I think they are pretty sharp and impressive most of the time. The game does feel much more like an RPG, with VATS combat, but more importantly with hard decisions, peaceful solutions and other such things. There are solutions and options in missions I can't do because of the way my skills are set up, and that is a freaking revelation compared to Oblivion.

So why isn't it great? I don't know, it just doesn't snap together and immerse me in this fictional world like other games have recently (Bioshock, Dead Space, Far Cry 2). Bethesda hit a high note with immersion with Morrowind, fell a bit with Oblivion, and I don't think they gained any ground here. It feels like I SHOULD be immersed, with the radio robots, the well done dialogue, the deeper quests... but I'm not.

Need more time with the game.

I feel the same way.

I think for me it may be related to the visuals though. I'm trying not to be too much of a graphics wh0re but... the game just doesn't look good at all to me. Everything is just so smudgy and messy looking. And not in a realistic or stylized way. It just looks thrown together. Scenery is low poly and very angular (probably to improve performance), textures look spotty and random, so its really hard to look at a scene and feel immersed in it. It looks exactly like it did in the screenshots and I never liked the way it looked. The unrealistic lighting and lack of variation in the world also work against the visuals.

It actually looks like it was intended to be viewed much farther away, like the old Fallout games.

Morrowind was for me perhaps the most immersive experienced I've had, like a peak, with the sound, music, weather, etc... and I have looked for that same experience since and have not found it. I think it has more to do with me than the games though. Games just don't do it for me like they used too. Maybe its me, maybe its the games, hard to say....

I seriously can't understand why so many of you are hung up on hating this game. I'm having too much fun to dwell on the negative.
  • Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz
  • BFG GTX 260 OC
  • 8GIG's DDR2 @ 900Mhz
  • Vista x64

For me so far:
-Right when the vault escape sequence started, the game crashed (froze actually). I was on the 178.13 WHQL driver and went ahead and updated to the 178.24 drivers. Since then I've had no crashes at all
-While playing, a vertical strip (about 15% of my screen real-estate on the ride hand side) would flicker every so often rapidly, showing the desktop behind. Turning off VSYNC fixed this and I can't tell much of a difference with VSYNC off
-On ULTRA HIGH settings I almost never see a dip below 50fps

I get that too. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

Probably the reason people are hating FC2, which is that they are probably negative people. I've bought several games this year that I started playing and didn't like, so I stopped playing and called it $50 up in smoke. What I didn't do is go on forums and make post after post about how pathetic the game is, and now pathetic the developers are, and so on. Objective opinions are fine, but some people take it to an extreme.

Man.....it has been a long time since I've been able to install a game and just play.....without having to trouble shoot up the ying yang.
So far so good, 1-2 crashes in 8 hours of gameplay is acceptable....to me anyway.
Sidenote FL3 is different then FL1 or 2, not a bad thing, kind of can be played as a fps if you want to, just like some people like to put 24's on a yugo and call it a sports car I guess, turn base is cool imo.
Other then that solid chapter in the FL series.
