Default Microsoft Launches Windows Azure

During Microsoft's keynote at PDC 2008, Ray Ozzie announced a version of Windows that runs over the Internet from inside the company's data centers. According to the official website, Windows Azure is "a cloud services operating system that serves as the development, service hosting and service management environment for the Azure Services Platform." The Azure Services Platform includes the following components:
- Windows Azure for service hosting and management, low-level scalable storage, computation and networking
- Microsoft SQL Services for a wide range of database services and reporting
- Microsoft .NET Services which are service-based implementations of familiar .NET Framework concepts such as workflow and access control
- Live Services for a consistent way for users to store, share and synchronize documents, photos, files and information across their PCs, phones, PC applications and Web sites
- Microsoft SharePoint Services and Microsoft Dynamics CRM Services for business content, collaboration and rapid solution development in the cloud

microsoft, always epically slow, google has been planning and implementing this ages ago.

Basically google says the future is a computer without an OS based solely on a web browser accessing everything from the web (no need to install anything anymore).

Azure means hosted Sharepoint, Exchange, SQL Server, and other enterprise services. Google cannot compete with this, they do not have enteprise SW at all - current Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, etc. are "end-user" services, and they compete with Live.com, Hotmail, Live Custom Domains (https://domains.live.com/), Office Live Workspace (http://workspace.office.live.com/) services. And Microsoft is better even here, as you can use Live.com as webapps (mail.live.com), desktop apps (Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Messenger) and mobile apps (Windows Live for Windows Mobile, but also Nokia Live). Google has simple webapps only.

In fact, Google is extremely overrated. They are brilliant for search / ads, but they suck for anything else.
