Default Build Opinions

Build opinions. Let me qualify this. I already own G. SKill DDR3 1600 Ram. I am not going SLi/Crossfire.

I am thinking; keep my Q6600 and go P45/X48 or go i7 920 + X58. The Q6600 I own now is capable of 3.8GHz.

DFI P45 205usd

or

DFI X48 330usd

or

Go i7 920 + X58 for about 260 + 300 something = 560 usd

or

Keep what I have. Feel free to post alternate suggestions.

sure if you want to wait months until it's finally available that you can actually get it... then deal with the bugs and FW updates... then pay 2 times the price, when it probably won't impact your gaming performance hardly at all... unless there's something else that you really need the extra cpu power for...

What are you talking about "waiting months"? In few days there are going to be plenty of Core i7 for everybody and this is according to Intel.

It's called passed experience... but hey if you want to believe everything intel tells you be my guest, just cause they specify a release date doesn't mean it will be "available" to the masses... and that was just one point:

The biggest downside to Core i7 is probably the cost. Keep in mind we’re not referring to the price of the CPUs themselves, in fact we feel Intel has priced the CPUs very aggressively considering the performance you’re getting. The Core i7-920 is only a little slower than QX9770 yet it costs significantly less, while the Core i7-940 is also priced to move at $562. You can even make an argument that the Core i7-965 is a steal at $999. It is after all the world’s fastest processor and it's priced $400 less than the QX9770.

The real problem Core i7 faces is the cost of its underlying platform. X58 motherboards are expected to sell for $300+ when they go on sale later this month, while triple-channel memory kits currently start at $125. That’s over $400 that you’ll have to spend to upgrade to Core i7 before you even pick up the processor (assuming you don’t already have DDR3 memory).

if you got the extra cash and don't mind near zero benefit at high resolution gaming, then go waste your money...

Personally, I wouldn't touch it for, like I said above - months, at least 6 months, until the demand goes down, the prices drop and until they work out the bugs - mostly the mobos... I'll never buy first gen of anything ever again, been bitten way too many times...

Why not get the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, its 100$ cheaper than the DFI board. . . .

DFI has been definitely flaky for me.
