Default GeForce4 420 Go w/ Kubuntu 8.10

I updated to 8.10 a while ago. I found out that the 96 series was unsupported so I went with the default driver. Well once the new beta came out I was happy and tried it. It actually installs unlike the other drivers, but when I try to boot up the xserver it just gives me a white screen with random color vertical lines. I had to reload the original back up of my xorg.conf file to load the xserver up again, so the driver is still not being used. Does anyone know why this could happen?

Try using my xorg.conf. Just change the monitor data and video card data to match your systems parts.

Hello,

I had the same problem and, to solve it, i added :
Code:
	Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "CRT-0"
to the Device section

example :
Code:
Section "Device"
	Driver "nvidia"
	Identifier	"Configured Video Device"
	BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
	Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "CRT-0"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
	Identifier	"Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
	Identifier	"Default Screen"
	DefaultDepth	24
	Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
	Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"
	Monitor "Configured Monitor"
	Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection
or maybe you can read this :
