Maybe nobody read my other post about the "blu-ray plug-in" which stated that it is not for playback only authoring of blu-ray. Hence buying it will not give you playback capabilities in ShowTime. Just forget about ShowTime, get PowerDVD and move on like the rest of us.

No. Vista doesn't support Blu-ray/HD-Dvd playback. 3rd party software is required for it.

Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 Ultra seems to be the best playback software. I've only played one movie on it so far, but it was flawless and very easy to use.

Is this like how out of the box (atleast pre SP1) XP didn't support DVD playback? If I installed such software, could I use MC to play back those formats then? I ask cause I really do like MC and would prefer to continue using it. I'll be picking up a couple Blu-ray/HD-DVD drives in a few weeks and supposedly the software they come with includes support for blu-ray/HD-DVD playback. Once it's installed, can I just use MC to play back those discs?

It is like DVD and XP Deemed. If you install 3rd party decoder you can use MC and WMP to play back BD and HD-DVD. I even found WMP to have better quality than the 3rd software that came with the decoder!

That's usually been my experience as well.

Thanks.

DVDs look so much clearer on PowerDVD. Nero ShowTime had some type of aliasing or low-quality upscaling when making it fullscreen.

I compared the two recently and it's like night and day. It's especially noticeable with Sweeny Todd in the beginning with all the text of Director and so on. On Nero ShowTime the text has jaggy edges and looks like they didn't do anti-aliasing on it in post production, but with PowerDVD it looks sharp, clean and smooth.

Screw Nero's ShowTime! I'm over it like a bad one-night stand.

I just wish there was a way to turn off that stupid Movie Live thing in PowerDVD even though I've disabled it. It still shows a little overlay when a disc is stopped from playing with how many people own it and average rating and so on. I could care less. I just want to see the PowerDVD screen when I hit stop.

Anyone know how to turn that crap off completely?

I'm wondering the same thing myself. If I were you, I would use the copy of that e-mail and submit a chargeback with the credit card company.
