This isn't fixed in 180.06 version and suspend is completely broken on my laptop
Hibernate is beeping but resuming (as it was doing all the time)...

That's odd; I've never been able to get hibernate working, but suspend works great. I have what sounds to be a similar T61 with the 140M chipset... You might want to read this, which I wrote while I was using Ubuntu http://david.goodlad.ca/2008/3/14/su...-on-lenovo-t61 . The short version is that in order to suspend with the binary driver, you need to enable the s3_bios and vbemode_restore quirks in whatever tool you're using to suspend.

I also experience this problem. I am running Ubuntu Intrepid w/ nvidia 177.80 driver. This is on a thinkpad T61p w/ Quadro 570M. My suspend+hibernate work perfectly but on a "warm" restart of X it hangs for a very long time... long enough for gdm to kill my X and go into "safe graphics mode". In fact my delay seems to be over a minute since I already upped my gdm timeout to 60.

I did not have this problem with Ubuntu Hardy w/ 177.80 driver, although suspend+hibernate were very dodgy at best. Is this problem related to 1.5 series xorg server? (which was upgraded from hardy->intrepid)

This isn't fixed in 180.08, nor the suspend, nor the slowdown...
I'm back to 177.82.
I really hope all this () will be fixed some time soon!

I've been having this issue since >=176.XX..

I'm on a thinkpad T61P with Nvidia Quadro FX 570M, currently using beta 180.18, but have tried nearly all 177.XX, 180.XX drivers leading up to absolute latest beta.

X will hang for ~30s on startup. I managed to use logger to apply timestamps to Xorg's debug output, here's the spot where X will hang (notice the ~30sec lapse in time)

Code:
Dec 27 11:04:30 logger: (II) NVIDIA(0): Creating default Display subsection in Screen section
Dec 27 11:04:30 logger: "Screen0" for depth/fbbpp 24/32

Dec 27 11:04:30 logger: (II) NVIDIA(0): enabled.
Dec 27 11:05:02 logger: (II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU Quadro FX 570M (G84GL) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)

Shame on you, nvidia...

Yes!!~~
I finally found the “organization”...
I have the same problem with the Thinkpad T61 NVS 140M (OpenSuSE 11.1 32bit).
And my friend's laptop Thinkpad R61 has this issue too...
So, I tried the driver from the stable 177.82 to the unstable 180.18 and the logout thing is still unfixed.
It's so sad...

Sorry for the very slow response on this bug. We've reproduced the problem and are investigating it. Unfortunately, it's very unlikely that a fix is going to make it in by our official release deadline, so don't expect it to be fixed in the next release.

Guess I just had a Déjà-vu ... ;p

Great to hear that you reproduced two of the nastiest bugs and you will fix them, even though not in the next release.

Thanks for the support, kind regards

FYI this bug does not occur in Ubuntu Intrepid with the new 2.6.27 kernel. (at least for me on my T61p or any other machines I have encountered.

Could you please share your kernel configuration, then?
I know, it is probably the ubuntu default one, but I don't have an ubuntu at hand.

Oh, and some details about the machine (mainly architecture, x86 or amd64) would be nice.

nVidia: If you identified the problem, could you give some directions or point me to the sections of kernel configuration I should look at? Probably ACPI or arch related. Because with my Gentoo 2.6.28 kernel (Tux on Ice or plain Gentoo) the problem persists with 180.25
