I think I'll downgrade to 180.18 and see whether I can get it to play there. If so, it clearly is a regression in the driver...
I'm using 180.22 right now and I had to use 22 surfaces. Which incidentally fixed a number of other files which were failing.

Thumbs up Re: mplayer vdpau

hello,
-im using the nvidia-drivers version 180.22,
-the latest mplayer version that include vdpau from the gentoo berkano overlay,
-an asus 8600gt 512MB video card

i have applied the hacks :
- (+11) for the reference frame limit,
- set the value of video_surfaces for h264 to 22
in vo_vdpau.c

all my 720p videos works with vdpau hardware decoding. But i still cant get to play one of my 1080p video.

http://pastie.org/private/stqyldpq0rwv557fgslea

is the trace of running the command to play the file with the debugging options

http://pastebin.com/m4e8012ec
is the nvidia-bug-report.log

i am unfortunately not skilled enought to give a sample of my video, if its absolutely necessary that i do so, i will ask someone at school on how to achieve this.

thank you very much for your time

Thanks I'll try that. I take it you left max_references at 16?

Yes I forced it. I commented out line 704 in libvo/vo_vdpau.c and replaced it with

Code:
max_references = 16;
This setup is probably ok for my requirements (Mythtv playback box) but it might be problematic for someone running Compiz.

Yes that took care of my killa sampla version just fine.

However, I get this:
BENCHMARKs: VC: 1.801s VO: 2.987s A: 0.777s Sys: 17.679s = 23.244s
BENCHMARK%: VC: 7.7471% VO: 12.8509% A: 3.3418% Sys: 76.0602% = 100.0000%
BENCHMARKn: disp: 544 (23.40 fps) drop: 4 (0%) total: 548 (23.58 fps

For some reason, it drops a few frames... Not to worry though.

The "+11" hack isn't really the correct approach. If you're going to hack max_references, simply set it directly to the value you need, rather than adding some arbitrary value to some irrelevant base. If you have enough video RAM, simply hard-code the value to 16.

As I mentioned before, code 28 in this style of error message means that the clip uses more reference frames than were asked for when creating the decoder. We should really add an error code to vdpau.h for this...

Anyway I can get this working with 2 output's on the display adapter? I saw xinerama wasn't supported, but I got my main monitor + my tv plugged in 24/7, so I dont want twinview, as I never want windows placed there/ability to drag windows there as I use freevo + a remote on the tv.

When I start anything I get an instant crash "Error 25 at libvo/vo_vdpau.c:230".

Attaching my current (and working fine with everything except vdpau) xorg.conf.
Attached Files
File Type: gz xorg.conf.gz (1.1 KB, 132 views)

concerning post #518
- hardcoding 16 for max reference
- and 22 for video surface of h264

now allows me to watch absolutely all my h264 videos, no matter the size or bitrate while keeping cpu under the 30% mark

thanks a lot Stephen Warren and nvidia <3

@mrn,

Judging by your xorg.conf, I think your current setup should work. Please follow the instructions in the debugging sticky to generate the full debug information we need to diagnose your problem.

the terminal just freeze and nothing happen after this command:
user[mplayer-vdpau]$ ./mplayer -vc ffvc1vdpau -vo vdpau /home/user/_bluray.tmp/00000.m2ts

Using the sample file Grey.ts from this post:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...79&postcount=3

mplayer -vc ffh264 Grey.ts
- file plays without segfault.

mplayer -vo vdpau -vc ffh264vdpau Grey.ts

Note that this is with the

max_references = ((12 * 1024 * 1024) / surf_size) + 2; //2 more (ugly hack)
I found earlier in this thread, the file however segfaulted without it.
