Still poor performance, even with 180.06 drivers.
I'm just about to go home and drink more beer because of this problem. This is the annoying and dreaded performance level issue. nvidia-settings claims the Performance Mode is "Maximum Performance" and yet Performance Level is 0.
Almost has bad as my last girlfriend, all talk no game. I have tried all the possible tweaks recommended here on the forms with the 177 release and now the 180 release. With both PowerMizer says level 0.
In all honesty, I am rather ticked at the moment so if this seems like a heated message ... well it is.
So recap of what I did: on 177:
* Option "PixmapCacheSize" "1000000"
* Option "AllowSHMPixmaps" "0"
and a little script that ran at each x-login (on kubuntu 8.10) with nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1
I tried that with the old drivers and the new. And nothing ... still stuck with a paper weight laptop and now one empty can of beer. On the plus side, the beer helps.
If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Being without gaming and with the knowledge that I have a gimped graphics card is driving me slowly insane.
edit: forgot to add the bug_report file as per instructions. so here is a link to the text file running off of my server: http://www.piotrkrzyzek.com/nvidia-bug-report.log
