Default Re: [180.08] Screen off after suspend to ram

I've never gotten it to work completely reliably. It never works in kde 4 but it did work quite a few times in gnome for whatever reasons. It seems a time dependent gambel when it does work though, at least on my machine/setup. The most reliable attempts where with a plain old mem > /sys/power/state ... who knows why when quirk.none was used with pm-suspend.

But in the end, nvidia's at least identified the problem and a fix will be released someday yonder.

Situation 1:
Entering S3 from console, NO X-Server running -> Need to use vbetool to save & restore the vbestate. I.e. when using hibernate-script, I need to set:
EnableVbetool yes
RestoreVbeStateFrom /var/lib/vbetool/vbestate
VbetoolPost yes

Entering S3 from a running X-Server -> I CANNOT use vbetool or any other quirks or the display driver will run into an infinite loop when switching back to the X Console (Blank screen, backlight on, IO going crazy). Entering S3 and resuming works perfectly for me when just doing a plain "echo mem > /sys/power/state"
huh... tried the "echo mem > /sys/power/state" method on a Ubuntu Intrepid 64-bit (Quadro FX 570M, 180.22 driver, Kernel 2.6.27-9), still have the same problem.

Did suspend ever worked for you two times in row?

well it worked several times in a row, but only with the 2.6.28 kernel. With 2.6.27 + 180.22 it never worked, but I also didn't give it that much testing. However, last night I left it on S3 with 2.6.28 and 180.22 and it didn't come back. Didn't even manage to turn on USB and resume the kernel, so I had to hard reset. Now I've just gone back to the 177.82 driver which seems to be fine for now...

It's now working on and off for me. Using the "Recommended" 180.11 Ubuntu driver (Can't get 180.22 to even install, other Betas installed fine) and the latest kernel, I sometimes have it wake up, but much of the time, I get the black screen.

However, I got my hands on an 8600GT, and with that I now get, instead of a black screen, a black screen with a neverending blinking cursor!

Just in case anyone here would like to know, I just upgraded to 180.25 and successfully resumed from suspend, for the first time since 180.XX was introduced!

I guess that finally, us mobile users can take advantage of the performance improvements in this driver series.

I'd love to try the 180.25 but for some reason any driver past 180.11 won't install for me manually. It says it's successful, but enabling Compiz doesn't work.

Still not working for me...
Kernel 2.6.29-rc2
nvidia driver 180.25
on amd64

Edit:
Problem was with kernel 2.6.29-rc2.
I'm now back at 2.6.28.1, and suspend/resume works with 180.25.
Sorry for my premature post.
