The findings are as follows:

1. Ford- $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number plus 10 Excursions to NY Fire Dept. The company also offered ER response team services and office space to displaced government employees.

2. GM- $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number and a fleet of vans, suv's, and trucks.

3. Daimler Chrysler- $10 million to support of the children and victims of the Sept. 11 attack.

4. Harley Davidson motorcycles- $1 million and 30 new motorcycles to the New York Police Dept.

5. Volkswagen-Employees and management created a Sept 11th Foundation, funded initial with $2 million, for the assistance of the children and victims of the WTC.

6. Hyundai- $300,000 to the American Red Cross.

7. Audi-Nothing.

8. BMW-Nothing.

9. Daewoo- Nothing.

10. Fiat-Nothing.

11. Honda- Nothing despite boasting of second best sales month ever in August 2001.

12. Isuzu- Nothing.

13. Mitsubishi-Nothing.

14. Nissan-Nothing.

15. Porsche-Nothing. Press release with condolences via the Porsche website.

16. Subaru- Nothing.

17. Suzuki- Nothing.

18. Toyota-Nothing despite claims of high sales in July and August 2001. Condolences posted on the website.

Whenever the time may be for you to purchase or lease a new vehicle, keep this information in mind. You might want to give more consideration to a car manufactured by an American owned and / or American based company. Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign car companies contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the United States.

It's OK for these companies to take money out of this country, but it is apparently not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis. I believe we should not forget things like this. Say thank you in a way that gets their attention.

Looks like a hoax.

Did you really just forward a chain email to a forum? Are you really someone's aunt or grandmother in disguise?

On topic, this is really one of those "low blow - let's use 9/11" emails that makes me sick. First, I wonder what kind of "fact" checking went into the composition of the mail. Second, while its nice for companies to give out money for crisis, that's not their responsibility - it's making money.

Edit: And THIRDly... or something...

The most patriotic thing that those companies could have done was to invest that money into themselves so that they wouldn't have been going out of business 7 years later and putting millions of Americans out of work! As a result, THEY ARE LETTING THE TERRORISTS WIN.

You said it was in your Inbox. The email was written in typical FW FW FW FW format with no source other than "CNN HEADLINE NEWS" which is vague at best. The timing of this, with no substantial evidence (yet, I'm waiting for your article... and I believe you'll produce it, I'm just stating my perception of this at a glance), and the typical heart-string pulling way it was written made me feel like my great aunt had forwarded me an email on how to beat the oil companies by buying from Citgo on odd days and BP on even days.

Ok, you win. Looks like it is bogus upon researching further. I'm crawling back in my hole now.

But I don't want to win. I want us both to win. I want to be friends. I want to love you, but you keep pushing me away. We used to be so close, and now I feel so distant. If you could just give me another chance, with your heart of hearts, I really think that we could be something special. But you keep pushing me away, with your lies and deceit! WHY!?!

TBH LaZer, i don't think its completely wrong. I think its a distortion at a minimum.

For me I look at things like this with extreme caution based on the timing. Emails like this, and the ones on Citgo, and many many others are marketing genius as most of the recipients just believe them as gospel and that is exactly their desired effect.

Personally I think the big 3 DID do things to support the country on 9/11, but I also think that the $10 million is a slight distortion of what they actually did. And for what their now asking the american people to do for them, those donations on 9/11 were a pittance.
