Default Unloading module - why?

I have just used the new installer for the first time and it ran as sweet as a nut. But X just won't run and most weird it unloads the nvidia module with no reason given in the log.
I'm using a G4MX420 on Debian woody, running a 2.4.20 kernel. a duron 900 cpu. Nothing fancy - no overclocking or stuff like that.
Can you help?

Default Hello

You have an (EE) No screens found on your log... In most of case this is due to an bad installation ( Do you have install the drivers under KDE ? ).
For Install the drivers correctl you must type in a kde konsole in SU -> init 3

And you are in text mode:
sh NVIDIA....
Change XFconf and reboot

Oh there's a reason it unloads the nvidia_drv.o module (the "nvidia" driver):

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
Make sure the kernel module is loaded (do an /sbin/modprobe nvidia as root before you startx as your normal user), and see if you get this again.

If you do, then make sure your BIOS is configured correctly -- "PnP OS" (or whatever your BIOS calls it) has to be off, and "Assign IRQ to VGA" has to be on.

If modprobe'ing the kernel module makes it work, then you have to either add an alias to /etc/modules.conf, or add a line /sbin/modprobe nvidia to /etc/rc.modules (or some similar file, I don't remember which file Debian uses offhand).
