Using 180.18 I got corruption of my kernel file... and I suspect is 180.18 related... (I read other users that get corruption).
Now I using 177.80 and I wait the stable releases.
I hope nVidia fixing it.

@rockman1981
Now with 177.80 I have random wow+wine crash... but I suspect is Wine-bug related (my 4Gb memory too large for 32bit apps). I'm testing with a little script
Code:
#!/bin/bash
ulimit -m 3145728 &&
nice -5 wine "/games/World of Warcraft/Wow.exe
but I'm OT

I have not done a bugreport yet (downgraded to 177.82 again, because I need the system and already experienced data-loss because of those crashes), but encountered exactly the same problems on a 2 GB-machine with a GeForce 8600M GT.

Yes, same problem here with 8600m-GT in Dell Vostro 1500.

2 GB RAM.

Argh, either I use the 177 drivers with poor performance or the 180 drivers fast (at least a lot faster) but random crashes and no working suspend to ram :-(

just to ping devs: lastest drivers release (180.22) did not solved the issue here.
Attaching an nvidia-bug-report.log since i didn't before.

Sorry, nVidia, but you guys are really not making me a happy camper, either. Suspend should be a critical influence in your driver writing among other things.

Hello,

First of all, I have a Dell notebook : XPS M1530 Core 2 duo 2,53 Ghz , Nvidia Geforce 8600M Gt 256 mb DDR3. I always work on Ubuntu 8.10 but when I tried to install the linux nvidia drivers : 180.XX I get glitches, screen corruptions...So I tried other Distribution. I fond that in Fedora 10 I can install any of 180.XX until 180.18 with few glitches witch does not often happened. And with 180.22 I NEVER saw any glitches or any screen corruptions...all of them disapeared so what is the main difference between ubuntu and fedora? The glitches is due to the distribution or not? With some reading I found that the kernel of fedora is patched and used a modified version of the Vanilla kernel...is this have an influence on gltiches?

I am using Fedora 10 with : 2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686.PAE

ps : on ubuntu I compiled myself the 2.6.29 Git kernel but I still got glitches...

Unfortunately the .22 drivers still give me this full-screen corruption. I say "unfortunately" because these are now the latest full-release drivers...

It is unfortunate. I am plagued by the same issues. I did my part. I posted a bug report, description of running conditions, etc. The most I could gather from the nvidia devs is "we can not reproduce", so now I am forced to play the waiting game. There's nothing more I can do. And it really sucks, because I'm missing out on some really cool stuff with this new "stable" release. Namely CUDA 2.1 and OpenGL 3.0 support. I could care less about VDPAU. Which is where all the real focus has been lately, or so it seems. A real pity. I mean, accelerated video playback is probably very important to a lot of people, and I can understand that. But stability should always be the priority in my eyes. I'll stick it out for the next few rounds of betas and stable releases, and see if anything changes. But after that, I don't think the requirement of an nvidia video part will play a major factor in my purchasing decision for a new development laptop, as it has been in the past. The competition has a lot to offer these days, and it's only going to get better (read: open source from AMD and Intel). From a performance and feature standpoint, it's laughable now. nvidia still holds the crown. But at this rate, those days are most assuredly numbered in my eyes. Only time will tell.
