Similar, yes but not the same. The game has been shown time and time again to be CPU limited. Whatever you can throw at it the game will see benefit from.

If SLI worked well (or at all), but it doesn't. So your effective GTX275 is no match for a GTX480.

The f'ing geniuses at Rockstar support told me to update rockstar social club (with an obsolete update that was before the old launcher was replaced when EFLC was released). The update COMPLETELY overwrote my GTAIV folder with the old launcher and now it's 356 MB large...

I went from a Q9550 @ 3.74Ghz to the I7 and there was a HUGE difference in performance for GTA 4. Not to mention your 295 isn't working properly for GTA4, seeing as SLI doesn't scale correctly.

Ok i have to lower my axe and stand corrected. If you say there is quite that difference i will get Core i 7. And youre also right about GTA and SLI.. they dont really like eachother.

So i will get radeon 6 and core i7.. then am back in business and i will run gta with ENB series including SSAA!!!

Well for me upgrading to Core i7 helped the framerate BUT it did not help the quality of performance I was getting from this piece of doo doo port. Getting very high framerates 50-60 fps. But it's like the game plays in variable speed speeding up slowing down even though the minimum framerate is high. My Q9450 felt smoother even though my framerate was lower (in the 40s). I have to play with vsync on to correct this. Which prevents me from pushing some of the settings higher since you should maintain 60 fps to get good performance with vsync.

That's where the 480 comes into play I believe. With 1.5Gb of Vram it pairs up nicely with an i7 to dominate GTA 4.

I've seen people with 470s have the same problem. It's independant of graphics or drivers I think. Benchmark shows that while the game does use a lot of VRAM, there's still a good amount free. It's just a bad port :P

Yes, i see where this is going. My card has a total of 1700 in Vram, but as it's about 860mb per GPU i get 860 in total and that really sucks

A short video I fraps'd from my gameplay. I apologise in advance for the crappiness, conversion sucked all the quality out. There are still some hitches in loading due to me frapsing, but you can see just how smooth it runs.

Just picked this up in the Steam sale. Fingers crossed I can get it working fairly smoothly. Wonder if the new 120hz screen will help.
