Yep that happens on my system to from time to time. My only solution so far has been to Exit the game and reboot my system. It has to be a GTA IV issue as none of my other games suffer from this problem.

you can relocate ur steamapps folder and make it a junction, so steam will use another location other than the default folder location.

This is one other thing I noticed only happened in Windows 7. Using Windows XP SP3 now and this has never happened to me yet in XP.

And when it does happen, its always like that right away so you know it's buggered. Just shutdown, reboot and its fine the next time. Strange, like something just doesn't launch correctly once in awhile.

Been playing this game for the lats hour or so, ive hear of people having crashes of all kinds, game runs like crap etc ... personally it seems to run fine here, not sure how may FPS im getting and i dont really care ... its runs smooth without a glitch or stutter of any kind, All the game need is some AA & that would sort the edgies out .. apart from that i dont think the GFX are all that bad.

your running it on Med textures though, most problems seem to be when trying to run high textures, game runs fine for me with med textures, np at all with most settings maxed. its when I use High textures which the game sets as default on my system that it has issues and crashes. I just got home from work will try to defrag and reinstall drivers and see how it goes.

added -norestrict /high to end of my launchgta.exe shortcut.
added 5fps

Don't think -norestrict works but the /high did something
