Question Vista Purchase Questions

Hello Everyone,

I would like to get Vista for my system. Want to put 32bit on one HDD, 64bit on another HDD. I have a few questions:

Is this version of Vista Ultimate SP1 English NA DVD - Retail come with both 32bit and 64bit?

I can install both 32bit and 64bit from this DVD without having to contact Microsoft for extra disks,CD's,license keys, etc?

Where is the best place to purchase this?

When I build my new rig, I can install it on there or once install on old rig, I can not use again?

Anyother suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Monnie

You can install it as many times as you like... i.e. it's not tied to as specific computer forever.

Example: You install it on your computer now. 3 months from now you build a completely different computer and junk your old one. You can then re-install that copy of Vista on new computer without any issues.

What you cannot do, is keep your old computer with that copy of Vista, and have it on your new computer, simultaneously. You'll need two separate CD-Keys for that.

As to having two partitions, one 32-bit and the other 64-bit, on the same system... I'm not sure if that would work. never tried it. I'm imagine since they're both the same copy on the same system it should work... just cannot guarantee it.

Redeemed,

Thank you for the information. I appreciate it.

Where is the best place to buy? I see so many places with prices being $180-$300+, that is a big difference. I would not be so focused if the margin was $40-$50 but, almost double. hummm

Thank you,
Monnie

I would just go through Newegg. In fact, I wasn't aware that they had the retail copy for so cheap. Last time I looked the retail copy of Vista Ultimate Full was about $350... significantly more than what they're charging now.

Heck, that price for the retail copy of Full is what I paid for my retail copy of Upgrade all of maybe 1 year and a half ago or so.

I just might have to pick up another copy since it is so cheap.

ViN86,
Thanks

Some sites have 00002 as SP1 and some sites have 02261 as SP1.. I do not want to get scammed. One site even said " Due to current inventory, (02261) SP1 will be shipped on additional disk" That is just not right man.

Newegg is about as trust worthy as can be IMO. In fact, to the best of my knowledge pre-SP1 copies of Vista shouldn't be available any where new retail copies are sold.

I know that not a single copy of Vista we carry in my store is pre-SP1.

This late in the game, I wouldn't recommend getting both Vista 32 and 64, unless you've got some disposable income. If it were me, ideally, I'd keep XP as the 32-bit OS partition, and wait for Windows7 for the 64-bit partition. Still, best of luck with whichever route you take.

But what will that wait be, another year or so?

I'm not sure you can activate both the 32 and 64 bit versions at the same time, but I might be wrong. I bought my vista home premium OEM for $80 from www.directdeals.com You may want to check them out. There is a huge price difference from retail and oem and when it comes down to it I really don't think the price is worth it.

Thanks mojoman0,

Directdeals has a good price on 66R-02261 $220. $47 dollars less than Newegg

Thank you,
Monnie
