Hey ho,
The Nvidia drivers work great for me, and so does the installer. I don't really care about 3D acceleration or dual-screens or whatever, my machine just happened to not work with X' default nv driver. However, one quite frustrating problem remains. Whenever I want to exit X or just switch to a console, my monitor tells me it's out of range. Although I sure have specified the correct refresh rates in my XF86Config-4, something causes those rates to be overridden when I exit X. I can do whatever I like, but can't see a thing. So all I can do is pressing Ctrl+Alt+F7 to get back to X or Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot. I happily searched the forum I only now discovered, but found only one other person (ModemShark) who has experienced this behavior (in the first sticky thread) and no-one seemed able to tell him what the remedy might be. However, I thought it was worth a try. Those drivers didn't use to do that. I don't know when the problem really started (new X or new drivers), but I sure know it shouldn't be like that... :-) If it matters: I have a GeForce 4 MX and an AOC 17" monitor (30-70, 50-160) and I'm running Debian sid with XFree86 4.2.1, iirc. Of course, I'll provide any other information when needed. As an attachment, you'll find my XFree86.0.log. Greets, Tom

I have this problem also.... I emailed NVidia and they said there is a bug in the driver and that there is no fix currently available. So I went back to the standard kernel drivers.

You might try toggling off or on the vesafb driver (the high-res console). That was a workaround a while back for issues like this; I don't know if it still is or not.

You could try the 2960-driver. It is the last one that works for me without this issue.

Anyway, I'll try my luck with 2960 then... Thanks for the replies, Tom
