Default 9600 GS restricted driver issue ubuntu 8.10

hi,

I have a 9600 gs graphic card. but it make me angry a little.

I have two linux box.

one is intel duel core
another is intel quad core( E6600?)

and both box are ubuntu 8.10 .

when I tested this graphic card in first box(duel core) that's is no problem..

but, It doesn't work in another box ( quad core )

when it started, screen turned out black .. and it logs like this :

/var/log/X/xorg.0.log :
(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)

dmesg :

[ 10.876639] nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
[ 11.130405] nvidia 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
[ 11.130414] nvidia 0000:01:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[ 11.130690] NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 180.16 Fri Dec 12 12:40:20 PST 2008

it seems to be inserted well. ( you don't mind NVIDIA driver number )

I tested restricted driver are supported by UBUNTU, and NVIDIA.com

I guess that cause by cpu,motherboard are related to ubuntu envronment..

any one have similar problem?

I'll attach bug-reports to attachments

the file end up *during.txt was created during xserver was running with black screen.
another file end up *report.log was created after rebooting.

I hope it may be helpful to analyze this problem.

Are you sure you have a 9600 in this system? The nvidia-bug-report.log says:
Quote:
(--) PCI:*(0@1:0:0) nVidia Corporation G71 [GeForce 7900 GS] rev 161, ...
It looks like X is starting up fine based on what's in the log, there's no error messages anyway...

Besides the processor, is the rest of the hardware on these two systems the same (like the motherboard)?

It may be worth trying the F3 BIOS for your Gigabyte EP35-DS3R (you have F2).

First off your bug report shows a 7900 GS card being used. Second, did you try setting up the drivers using envyng-qt?

Yes, today, I installed nvidia driver using Envyng-QT.

but, nothing turned out.

after gdm start, my screen is black.

even to run nvidia-bug-report while screen is black, bug-reporte seems to stop writing file
( see attachement file )

so, I ran bug-report file after rebooting.

and I have to say to sorry to all. my graphic card is 7900 GS not 9600

and duel core box has AMD X2 6400(?) and it's memory is 2GB

and quad core box has INTEL e6600 and it's memory is 4GB

anyone needs any properties with my boxes, I'll write them

thank you

yes, so I think it's to hard to solve this problem for me.. it looks to be installed well, but X says :

(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)

and finally, xorg.0.log said :
Code:
	[5] -1	0	0x00000000 - 0x00000000 (0x1) IX[b]
(**) NVIDIA(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32
(==) NVIDIA(0): RGB weight 888
(==) NVIDIA(0): Default visual is TrueColor
(==) NVIDIA(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
(**) NVIDIA(0): Enabling RENDER acceleration
(II) NVIDIA(0): Support for GLX with the Damage and Composite X extensions is
(II) NVIDIA(0):     enabled
.

and log is not able to be wrote more..
( It seems to allows only ctrl+alt+del ...... )

and two linux boxes are different. one same things are ubuntu 8.10
