Question Ethernet issues in openSUSE

Ok, let me start off by telling you I'm a n00b--not to computers in general, but definitely to Linux. I just installed openSUSE on my computer and everything works fine except my external cable modem, which can be connected either via USB or via Ethernet cable. I have it configured to use a dynamic address (DHCP) as that is what my ISP requires. When I have it hooked up only via Ethernet cable, my connection doesn't work. However, when I hook up the USB cable, it works. I had no problems with Ethernet working in Windows, but now for some reason it's not detecting my connection... Any suggestions?
