FAN problem on laptop
When I m on windows the fan runs silently, on linux now and with every new driver the fan speed goes very fast that it is annoying, very annoying!!! is there a fix to this problem? can we underclock the GPU? and would underclocking it solve the problem?
I have a 8400m G, 128M ram, core 2 DUO 2GHz

Re: FAN problem on laptop
Is the CPU-Temp never about 45°C and your fan is always running with 100% speed?
If it does, underclocking will probably not solve your problem, like in my case.
I have (nearly) the same problem, and I have an Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M3438G.
After I searched in the Internet for a while, I found some (maybe useful) informations.
It doesn't worked on my laptop, but maybe it can help you... a program called "lm_sensors".
With this programm you get an interface to the sensors, and (I think that's the use of it) control the fan speed!
On the page of the creators you will get more help, because its a little bit complicated... for me (Linux-beginner). I only get it to show my CPU-Temp, but not the Fan-Speed. In my case its a problem with the NVidia-Drivers, and I think I will write a E-Mail to them... Hopefully I will get an answer...
I hope this was useful,
