Default 177.82 and 2.6.28 kernel

Just tried to install 177.82 with the 2.6.28 kernel but all I get is

Code:
If you are using a Linux 2.4 kernel, please make sure
you either have configured kernel sources matching your
kernel or the correct set of kernel headers installed
on your system.

If you are using a Linux 2.6 kernel, please make sure
you have configured kernel sources matching your kernel
installed on your system. If you specified a separate
output directory using either the "KBUILD_OUTPUT" or
the "O" KBUILD parameter, make sure to specify this
directory with the SYSOUT environment variable or with
the equivalent nvidia-installer command line option.

Depending on where and how the kernel sources (or the
kernel headers) were installed, you may need to specify
their location with the SYSSRC environment variable or
the equivalent nvidia-installer command line option.

*** Unable to determine the target kernel version. ***
kernel is properly configured and can be found at /usr/src/linux
180.18 installs and starts without problems.

I need 2.6.28 for ext4 and for me all 180.* have the "corruption and freeze"-problem so this is someway problematic.

Is there any way to get 177.82 to install?

Merry Christmas

You have to search the forum. There was an 'official' patch for 177.80 and someone 'patched the patch' to work with 177.82. Compiled here for 2.6.28-rc8, so should work with the final one as well.
