Was going to last Friday... but then got my car insurance bill. Could have let that bill sit for a few weeks... but I like paying bills off immediately.

I'll place the order tomorrow though. I put in a fair amount of over time last week so it should be a decent sized check.

But, I'm afraid, it'll have to be a bit longer before I purchase anything else for the rig. Trying to save as much money as possible.

Well, you know, I do have a bunch of hardware just laying around... I guess I could try and sell it here. That would give me some more money to work with. I'll have to inventory what I have and then make a FS thread. I could probabaly get a good couple hundred dollars or so if it all sells. That'd cover most everything I need for the computer.

Go for it. Depending on what you sell, I might be interested.

Alright guys. Here it is:

Q6600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115017

Asus P5Q Pro
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131299

G. Skill 4GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122

About the RAM: The motherboard memory standard is DDR2 1200. Can I run DDR2 800? Do I need to get DDR2 1200 specifically?

Newer Q6600 are pretty mediocre overclockers if peeps here haven't told you yet. I briefly had the newer G0's and I couldn't even make it 3.6ghz stable. But if you won't oc or just satisfied with 3 - 3.2ghz then its just fine.

If you can get a Q9550 E0 cheap then its a better cpu. Less power and 2.83ghz default speed which trumps the Q6600 any day.

Motherboard is fine as well as the rams. And yes, you can run ddr2-800. Its just that Asus guarantees you can run ddr2-1200 on that sucker.

Alright guys, with the new AMD Phenom II 920, etc. being faster than the Q6600, and the recent price drops, what do you think about going with them?

AND Phenom 920
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103472

ASUS M3A78-T
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131331

G. Skill Ram (4GB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122

Total of this comes to about $350

Wait- the PhenomII 920 *at stock speeds* is faster than a Q6600, also at stock speeds?

Are you serious? I really haven't followed the benches to be honest... is this true about the PhII 920s performance?

If so... I just might sell my Q6600 and mobo and go PhII right now.

And BearClaw... got the Raven case in last night. I'll try to take a bunch of pics of it tonight and give you my first impressions. Right now, though, it's still in its box as I haven't even had the chance to open it. Will do tonight though.

I could have sworn I posted a reply... but maybe I didn't.

Anyway, I vaguely remember a thread between you and Nekro where you were discussing benchmarks and talking about these new chips. I remember somebody saying that it has roughly about a ~10% performance gain, possibly more/all the way up to 35-40%. I also remember it saying that the average overclock for the gains was putting the chip around 4Ghz so....

About the Raven - I am in no rush! Don't worry about it!

EDIT: Ya, the only reason I switched to AMD was because with the price drop, they are the same price now, and I thought this Phenom II was faster. If not, I'll go with the Q6600.

(Psst... Redeemed, sell me yours, cheap. )

Ahahaa! Well, I've not firmly decided. I'll try to look through some benchmarks of the PhII tonight after I get in. If a stock 920 is faster than a stock Q6600, I'm still hesitant to sell my Q6600 cause I have to wonder how much faster the PhII will be on AM3, which is only a few short months away (isn't it?). I'd hate to purchase a PhII now, just to find out that the AM3 PhenomIIs are considerably faster yet. Whereas if I wait and find out that the AM3 PhIIs are only moderately faster (at best) with comparable overclockability, then I'll not be disappointed.

As to the case review, if you don't mind, it might make more sense for me to wait until I'm ready to assemble my new system. I'm almost there, as all I need now is RAM and a video card.

I've been reading through some of the reviews, and it seems like a stock 940 is comparable to a QX9770.

I'm seriously thinking of just keeping my Q6600 for now, and get the top end AM3 PhII when it comes out... could be as early as next month. Don't feel like waiting so I just go with my Q6600 for now, and if reasonably, upgrade to an AM3 PhII next month or so.

If I go PhII, I'll be using the new AMD800 series chipsets so I'll be able to use the OD and ACC features for an awesome OC. I'd already have at least one 4870 to use and would only need to purchase some DDR3 RAM. Which, by then, should be considerably cheaper.

Just purchased the CPU, Mobo, and RAM.

AMD Phenom II X4 940

Biostar TFORCE TA790GX

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB)

Still deciding on a case. Anyone seen Redeemed around these parts? He owes me a review of his new Silverstone Raven case...
