Does there exist a "known" issue with overclockability concerning GTX200?
I recently purchased a XFX GTX260 Black Edition with factory settings 666/1150/1404MHz for core/ram/shaders. However, i experienced frequent hard crashes with UT2004 and X-Plane (my only "serious" 3D apps). So i clocked it at the most common 576/1000MHz for core/ram and i didn't had any crashes since then. The situation is that i typically tend to not overclock CPUs or GPUs, because the potential (almost not recognizable) ten or whatever percent increase in performance isn't worth the more likely stability loss. However, in the past few years, i had pretty good experiences with factory default overclocked graphics cards. The XFX Black Edition has only been a few Euros more expensive than the default clocked cards, so i didn't loose much by now clocking it at "nvidia-default" frequencies. However, if this is just a "software issue", then i'd be curious :-) regards Bernhard |

I have a noticeable performance drop with ATI/Intel, since texture_from_pixmap still isn't a zero-copy operation, it's much better with NVidia: virtually no drop in 2D performance with Compiz enabled. |

I thought all the 2D problems were meant to be fixed by now?
Firefox with smooth-scrolling is still horribly slow for, for example on this page, scrolling is noticeably worse than under vista. Is this definitely a driver problem or should I be looking somewhere else? |

I really wonder what some consider major problems.
Compiz problems => Major ? Overclocking problems => Major? Get real. |

Vla retarded comment.
I got a 300$ card that can't do composite better, in fact worst than my laptop with an onboard Intel. You get real. |

Reports suggest similarly bad behavior on the 8300. For me its major enough that I'm doing research on other solutions even tho I just bought this machine 2 months ago.. I'll see it and get something else. |

And we've problems not only on compiz, but on kde kwin4 too. Having a composite so slow is a serious issue... and having it crashing every 2 minutes or so is even worst. Having a new shiny 3D card and being not able to run a 3D desktop (while Vista is doing this for free) is a shame. And anyway, every regression problem is always a major problem, unless the lost feature is unsupported |

For free? I think you're a bit confused about M$ business model...
![]() I for one would like to thank NVidia for this big bunch of fixes and new features. This one sounds especially interesting: "Added initial support for PureVideo-like features via the new VDPAU API" - does it mean that the GPU's acceleration features can be used even if it has only partial support for a video format, and do the rest in software? Until now VDPAU has required that either 100% of video decoding and displaying is done in HW or then it's all done in software. |
