X crashes using KDE4/plasma
I have 64-bit Arch Linux with KDEmod 4.1.3 and an NVIDIA 8600GT graphics card.
X crashes when I try to add new applets to my desktop/taskbar or when I try to change desktop settings (desktop type, theme, wallpaper). "X crashes" means my computer suddenly returns to the KDM login screen.
This happens every time when I do one of the following:
* right mouse button on desktop > unlock desktop
* RMB on desktop > add widget
* start dragging widget from window to desktop; when the mouse moves, X crashes
* RMB on desktop > desktop settings
* try to change anything in that window, like the wallpaper or the theme; when clicking, X crashes
According to the KDE people, this is probably a bug in the NVIDIA driver. The weird thing is: all the other programs work, it is just plasma that has this strange problem. I have tried both the stable 177.82 NVIDIA driver in the official Arch repository and the beta 180.18 NVIDIA driver in AUR. I am currenty using the beta driver, but the problem happens with both drivers.
Anyone knows what might be the problem? If you need more information, please ask. I have attached the nvidia-bug-report log.

Re: X crashes using KDE4/plasma
It appears I had a weird combination of options in xorg.conf, that caused the X server to crash. I removed the extra options in the device section and now everything works.
Now it looks like this:
VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
BoardName "GeForce 8600 GT"
