When the Beta Expires does it lock you out or just nag you to death? I don't want to upgrade my current install and risk losing everything...

don't know, it just says that it will "stop working", someone can install set the date ahead and see what happens.

Officially, Microsoft has promised that it will be out before the three-year anniversary of Vista's January 2007 mainstream launch.

Update, 1:55 p.m. PT: Tom Warren at Neowin.net says the direct link that they posted earlier Friday is still working.
