Unable to use drivers >180.06 on Quadro NVS 135M

Hi all,
using the 180.06, everything is ok (or at least it seems), if I try to upgrade to something newer (e.g., 180.18 or 180.22), the X server cannot start, I see for a moment a screen with some garbage and an X mouse pointer bigger than usual.

Attached the relevant logs. There is also a message (API mismatch, you can find it in the logs) that started to appear somewhere in 178.xx updates, but everything worked even with that message (maybe it is something to fix, anyway).

You still have 177.80 driver floating around, please use the instructions outlined here.

anyway, when the installer is looking for conflicting files, I think it should find also that there is a previous installation on the system... isn't it what it is supposed to do?

At the driver install stage it's not safe to simply purge old modules as it can break the consistency of a system package manager (DEB or RPM).

Anyway NVIDIA software developers could indeed fix this problem by showing a big warning message if a kernel module from a previous driver version was detected in the system.

Come on!

It is the same with xorg.conf, isn't it? the system package manager's configuration file is backed up and a new one is put there. And also other libraries are backed up before being substituted by the new ones. (I think for the --uninstall feature).
