I am assuming from previous posts you are talking about an Nvidia 8400.

I just sold a desktop system with that card, it was a horrible preforming card when it came to games, it would run KDE effects reasonably well, but games and anything seriously taxing on the card was dismal at best. It is not intended to be a gaming card.

Running unigine on that card gave me about 3 fps rate.

My current laptop with a 9800m gs does fairly well on the benchmark, and plays any game I throw at it, it does this with the 3D effects running.

The 8400 would pretty much just stutter and choke if I attempted anything like playing a game with 3D effects enabled, and barely chugged through them with it turned off.

In other words the 8400 simply isn't a good card for such things, it never was intended to be.

The 7600 in my wifes desktop ran circles around my 8400.

2brucecadieux:

Bear in mind that I do not represent, neither I have any relationship to Unigine company.

Also Nvidia 8400 is amongst the slowest GPUs in the market right now - I'm not even sure if it's still available for purchasing.

Most modern games require at least 8600GTS/9600GT class GPU for comfortable playing experience.

Did someone say you did represent them?

I do believe I said exactly the same thing you did, the 8400 is not intended for anything more serious then displaying simple things and applications like the benchmark and or games are a no go on such a simple card.

Anyway, I do not expect my card to work for games, it's not what I wanted when I bought it. I was just saying that the statement "Unigine supports 8400" is too easy to misunderstand, from client side, I mean.

I play Unreal Tournament 2004 at 1680x1050 with a 8400 GS with max settings and plays well.
Also there's another monitor attached to it at 1024x768.
KDE 3D effects also run nice on my laptop with a 8400M card.

Other games in Windows also play well with that card (e.g. Farcry).
Gamer cards are not worth the money, unless you want to play the latest games at crazy resolutions and max settings. Also they (the games) usually come poorly optimized, relaying in "brute force" (polygon count) or in features not supported by today standards (e.g. the game "Outcast" released in 1999, implemented its very own voxel engine on the CPU).

Looks like I'll be turning in the fastest result so far.

I used 1280x1024 and other settings like the OP said. Other people have been cheating by using 1024x768.

FPS: 47.9
Scores: 1206

Thumbs down Re: Hall of Fame: Unigine Tropics Demo Results

Interesting but useless. It doesn't even recognize the right Openal lib. Sorry, I have to get back to playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
