Ask developers, however I doubt there will be any visible improvements in performance when running in x64 mode.

Also it seems like this demo is very CPU dependant (which is good and bad - from different points of view).

It's not about performance, it's about being able to run it on a pure x86_64 installation without having to install a crapload of useless 32-bit libs…

I don't know the exact figures now, but it's around 8.3 FPS with a 8500GT with 256MB RAM.

Actually I don't find that the 8500GT is unsuitable for 3D gaming (even though it's much slower than most of the 8000 series). Btw, the Unigine sancturary demo runs with 28 FPS or so. So why is Tropic so much slower ?

Dragoran, it seems the nVidia driver is speed limited in some way. I get the same score on a "slower" spec'd system.

The tropics demo is more, err, 'complex' than the sanctuary one. I can get some pretty variable results. I've noticed that a lot of the time the 2nd run is quicker than the first one. I always run it at least 3 times to find the 'median'.

FWIW, the results I get no my M1730 dual 8700M GT:
Binary:Linux 32bit GCC 4.1.2 Release Oct 29 2008
Operating system:Linux 2.6.24-23-generic x86_64
CPU model: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7700 @ 2.40GHz
CPU flags:1925MHz MMX SSE SSE2 SSE3 HT
GPU model: GeForce 8700M GT PCI Express 177.82 512Mb
Render: opengl
Mode:1920x1200 fullscreen
Shaders:high
Textures:high
Filter:trilinear
Anisotropy:4x
Occlusion:disabled
Reflection:enabled
Refraction:enabled
Volumetric:enabled

All tests run with default nvidia driver install, no tweaks, Compiz off, default tropics options, except for screen resolution, which is the native for this laptop.
Code:

Version SLI FPS
177.82
              Off 10.00
180.29
              AA 7.00
              AFR 2.00
              Auto 3.80
              Off 4.70
              SFR 5.60
Yes, it's slow :-/

For my machine, this test is a bit heavy, and I don't like it. I run several other graphics benchies - some are more revealing for my machine (Nexuiz, Lightsmark), some are useless (glxgears). For benchmarking graphics, I find you need to find a benchy that 'matches' your machine. Some are CPU bound on my machine, others have other bottlenecks that don't easily show the graphics improvements (or otherwise).

Currently, I'm sticking with 177.82, but that has to do with powermizer issues and graphics corruption in 180.xx series, not the performance.

ws

PS: Sorry about not running at 1280x1024 or whatever, but I didn't want to have to jump through hoops in changing resolution to get SLI comparatives etc.

What's with the cpu flags? And where is the 64-bit binary?
