I see SG as one of the most reliable HD makers, somehow - maybe the 5yr warranty, 3 yr warranty now, and a few words around the net seem to suggest that too...
This thing ain't nice though...

It works for the Seagate model # 9BX158-303, ST3100034AS, firmware SD15, Thats what I had now I got SD1A after the flash, So I'm good, I did alot of reading and downloaded the update utility that the guy name simkin did on his exact same hardrive and model, and firmware

those firmwares suffer from two bugs, the original bug that was killing 1.5TB drives and the new current bug

Apparently the original bug happened when some internal log had exactly 320 entries in it and tried to initialize the drive. So if your drives are working, don't reboot until Seagate has a fix available. (from here - /. so take with a grain of salt)
Note to self: In the future use mixed brands for RAID arrays... |

So I finally got around to looking at the serial numbers on my drives. They are not listed as being affected by this issue. I need to figure out how to tell what firmware is on them, but chances are it is a fairly old firmware as they were bought shortly after they came out.
Glad I don't have to try to flash them and possibly brick the drive, but I'm still going to work on getting all of my data backed up again. |

firmware version is on the label, or get CrystalDiskInfo it is SMART app that supports nforce, it will read all info about the HDD.

So according to the serial it's not affected, but according to the firmware it is.EDIT: Hmm reading your original post it said the drives from Thailand were the ones affected. I know that mine were both from Singapore. Maybe that's why the serial number shows that it is unaffected. |
