Default NiN raw HDV camera footage doesn't work in VDPAU

I attempted to play the downloaded video from the NiN concerts (not even a big fan just thought it would be worth watching) but mplayer crashes when I attempt to play the footage using the VDPAU codec. It plays fine with the ffmpeg codec.

Torrent links here: http://forum.nin.com/bb/read.php?52,378166

This is with the VDPAU trace and debugging on... not much to see:
Code:
$ mplayer -vc ffmpeg12vdpau Victoria\ CAM1-1.mov

- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
  It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your

What is the hdv2 codec? Is VDPAU supposed to support this?

Then I guess you've done this also:

MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
