I don't expect to see Nvidia's true next-gen DX11 / Shader Model 5 GPU ("NV60") until late Q3 at the earliest, and probably not until Q4.

Whatever Nvidia has coming in H1 2009 won't be a next-gen card, but an upgraded GT200/GTX280 "NV55", thus "NV57", whether that GT212 or whatever.

remember that the first dx11 card is supposed to be gt300. all gt2xx are dx 10.x

More than likely, yes. Microsoft will probably push Windows 7 out before Christmas.

Remember that Windows Vista missed Christmas 06, it arrived in early 07, I don't think Microsoft wants to repeat that. Windows 7 will, of course, have DX11 built in, and I'm sure there will be hardware to support it, i.e. Nvidia's next-gen GPU, AMD's RV8xx / R8xx, and the first examples of Intel's Larrabee might be out for workstations in late 09.

If GT300 is the true next-gen Nvidia GPU that supports DX11 / SM5.0, and not just an upgraded GT200, then I don't expect it until Q3 or Q4.

I think my 8800Ultra for emergency use, and my new GTX295 for everyday are an awesome pair to have. And I'll wait at least a year to get a new card. Hopefully the performance keeps going up each generation, and the price keeps going down.

DX11/SM5 will work with Vista as well, so it isn't really tied to actual launch of Windows7.
Transition will be similar to windowsXP and directx9.
