Sure, I'd like for it to run at 80fps constant at max settings in DX10, but that just isn't going to happen for a while. There are games that look far worse and are far less impressive technically than DX9 Crysis that don't run much different.

I run COD4 flawlessly at 1920X1200 everything maxed 4X FF and it smokes Crysis. Not sure why you guys defend it at all. It's a pig and if it requires 2-4x the GPU power we have now just to run in the same settings as COD4 you can keep it... Good game and very fun to play but it doesn't live up to the hype.

Partner, this discussion will probably just go round and round... but visually there is not a single other game that looks as realistic as Crysis. That's why CoD plays better at max settings... it doesn't have nearly as realistic graphics. Look at people for example, the skin in Crysis is *far* more realistic looking than in CoD4, textures, lighting, particles, etc... Crysis is far more realistic in appearance than any other game.

Now, if you prefer the CoD 4 look, the art style, to Crysis... there's no argument, CoD4 will obviously win every time. But from an objective, which game is most true-to-life in graphics, Crysis wins.

And *that* is why it runs so poor on such high-end hardware. FYI, my Phenom rig can play Crysis at 1680x1050, 4xAA, 16xAF, GCAA, MSTAAA, vsyn + TB, all in-game settings at high, and it remains playable the entire game. Bet you it dips no lower than 25 fps, and that's only when it's loading a new area.

Anyhow, I've said my peice and really don't feel like saying much else on this matter. It's a dead horse...

No doubt, bro. If it wasn't for my co-worker offering to buy my Phenom rig, and agreeing for the exact price I wanted to sell it for, I would not have gotten rid of it. The rig is flipping fast, burns through everything... and that's just running two mainstream cards, at stock clock speeds, with the proc at stock speeds as well.

Anyhow, selling it forced me to upgrade to the Q6600 and GTX260. It'll be nice and fast. I'm really wanting to see how much nicer it plays crysis than my dual 9600s. I'm just itching for 6PM to roll around... it couldn't come too soon!

And I don't think there will be a game to rival it anytime soon.

That said, I do think that the GTX380, if it is indeed a completely new architecture, will be the first single card to allow you to 100% max the in-game settings in Crysis while maintaining reasonable framerates. I have no proof of this, it is merely a hunch that I have.
Ditto.

The Crytek team did say prior to release that it would take hardware 18 months+ to catch up to the game and while people don't remember it taking this long for hardware to catch up to Far Cry.... how many people at that time had even a 20" CRT that would run 1600x1200 much less something running 1920x1200? IIRC most of the reviews were run at 1024x768 rofl.

Agreed.

COD4 looks good but the overall quality isn't even close to Crysis. They also aren't even comparable from a technical standpoint.

The reason COD4 runs so good is that if you were to walk 2 feet off of the rails they stick you on there would be big holes in the scenery. Crysis has to cram a hell of a lot more high quality scenery into a level because you can go almost anywhere.

I qualified my statement some four of five posts ago. I understand COD4 has limitations and I agree with those comments however in terms of performance and visual bang for the buck COD4 crushes Crysis. Crysis is nothing more than hype. What real amazing game play addon did it bring to the table? Bigger maps? Destructable Objects? Hmmm Big Deal. I agree Crysis does a better job with some realism however if you need to have 3-4 times the horse power to run a game they missed the mark. How many of you guys are going to replay this thing some 2 years down the line because you have the rig to run it? Not many I suspect.

Like most guys I lowered the settings which takes away from all these amazing visuals. Add any any reasonable amount of AA and AF just to get it looking okay dropped the performance gain from lowering the resolution. So what's the point?

You're going to have a tough time selling me on this one.

If you're going to make a graphics engine that is going to take 2 years to realize that's fine for future games that will use it. Meanwhile you can put all the lipstick on this thing you want but it's still a pig.

Point taken about the fans coming out and arguing until this thread reached 12 pages... I will quite while I'm ahead.

Not sure what your running, But I've played thru 3 times already. first time high settings 2x 8800GTS 640s, 2nd time same settings 2x 9600GTOCs, 3rd time high settings with a GTX260 and each time the frame rate got better. I run in it in 64bit mode and get 40-45fps solid thru the game at 1680x1050 with high settings. I also have CoD4 and Crysis crushes it graphicly and game play wise for me anyways.

We get it, someone wants to say crysis runs sh1t because he doesn't understand the term "future proof". Someone does not understand that it was designed to be so far ahead of every other games graphics (at the time) that it was impossible to run on full graphics at the time. THIS WAS DONE ON PURPOSE.

I run 1920X1200 with 2X 8800GTs and it sucked so I lowered it to 1680X1050 to get it to play. Glad to see you got your moneys worth out of the game. Let me know how it plays after you get better cards and run the resolution native to a 24inch monitor.

Oh wait you can just start to do that now after purchasing 5 different video cards. You just made my point.

Yawn... Future proof for what? How many times are you going to play this game? After the 10th time through let me know if you still dig it.

I understand putting tech into their engine that outstrips current hardware for reasons other than that game. They are open to selling their tech to other developers for licensing revenue.

Doesn't mean the game Crysis was playable at the time of it's release. You have to wait 2 years before video cards can actually run the game where as other games of that time ran very well.

Moving forward...
