Default Nvidia 180.22 unworkable with KDE4 resizing windows

Hi

I have now the NVIDIA 180.22 driver installed (part of my new OpenSuse 11.1 new distrib) and many things improved signicantly (Twinviews etc).

HOWEVER: the 2D capabilities, including for example the resizing of windows is just amazingly SLOW. I should say it is not even slow, it is just not usable. Sometimes a simple windows resizing takes more than 30 seconds during which I cannot do anything.
More generally it take about 10 seconds before anything happens.

Reading posts on this, all this should have been solved in the latest drivers: well this is not the case. I attach my nvidia bug report (gz) to this post.

ANY HELP is welcome as, at the moment, I cannot use the Nvidia card. Since I have a Vaio laptop I can switch to my intel card, but that is really ridiculous...

thanks!

You have a module mismatch.

It reports that you tried to install 180.22 but 177.82 still exists.

You will need to uninstall both versions and reinstall 180.22

thanks for the tip.
I just don't understand: I installed a brand new fresh OpenSuse 11.1 and the only way I can think both versions were installed is that the "update" did it.

So how can I cleanly remove all these versions/conflicting modules and resintall things properly, and possibly keeping a consistent xorg.conf?

Any tip is welcome.

thanks again

You could try deleting nvidia.ko, and then going into Yast and select the nvidia drivers for "update" to reinstall them.

/lib/modules/your-kernel-version-here/updates/nvidia.ko

thanks, will try that then.

I guess I can check if the 177 is still there by running again the nvidia bug reporter again and catch any occurence of 177 in the new output file...?

will post the output of all this as soon as done, thanks again for the (quick/efficient) help

Hi, I have a Nvidia 9400M (on MacBook 5,1 & Ubuntu 8.10) and experiment bad 2D (also in 3D with Kwin composite, but I don't like 3D effect) performance under KDE 4.2 RC when:
- unminimize (the window is grey for 2-3 seconds) or start new application (for example dolphin or konsole)
- maximize
- resize

In xorg.conf I don't have any "exotic" option (some suggestions?):
Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    Option "NoLogo" "True"
EndSection
The log is attached. Greets, ercoppa.

Just removed nvidia.ko and reinstalled the nvidia 180.22 drivers with Yast. Seemed to have worked as my new nvidia bug report (after restarting the X server) seems clean of reference of version 177 of the driver.

So far so good: with this driver properly installed the resizing of windows seems to go smoothly! Hope this will keep on working!

thanks a lot for the tips and efficient help!!

Sorry: I am coming back now because even though things have improved since last time it is still not satisfactory.

Resizing of windows seems to work "ok", but very often making a window bigger and then smaller again takes about 3-5 seconds and sometimes things freezes for about 5-10 seconds. I cannot imagine this is supposed to be a normal behaviour!

any hint / help welcome there. thanks!
