Default nvidia GeForce 9800 M GTX SLI, FEDORA 10 x86_64 and nvidia 180.22 driver errors

Hi,
I've just got my new laptop with a dual nvidia GeForce 9800 M GTX (both with 1 Gb of RAM) and SLI.

I installed Fedora 10 x86_64 and I can't make Xorg works at all, after installed nvidia drivers 180.22 for Linux 64bits (downloaded from nvidia web site) if I try to run any possible utility to configure Xorg or directly startx, kdm or gdm I get the following error:

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Having a look at the Xorg wiki and at the /var/log/xorg.0.log I understood that the there is no devices detected.

here is where Xorg startup crashes (in the xorg.0.log file):

(II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so
(II) Module nvidia: vendor="NVIDIA Corporation"
compiled for 4.0.2, module version = 1.0.0
Module class: X.Org Video Driver
(II) NVIDIA dlloader X Driver 180.22 Tue Jan 6 09:21:40 PST 2009
(II) NVIDIA Unified Driver for all Supported NVIDIA GPUs
(II) Primary device is:
(EE) No device detected.

I followed all the instructions on nvidia web site and executed the nvidia auto installation procedure, which doesn't report errors.

if i do modprobe -l nvidia I see it is loaded in the kernel.

Please help...

Thanks!

This is a known bug in the X server. You need to specify the BusID when there is more than one device in the system.

Thank you AaronP, I specified the BusID (reading the specified infor from the Xorg.0.log file which reports a couple of busID one for the first card which seems to be PCI:3:0:0 and another for the second card which seems to be PCI:4:0:0, hope I found the right one).

Now if I start X it still wont work but from the Xorg.0.log file I see that I went forward and there is a new problem connected to the RAMDAC apparently here is the log portion:

(II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules//libwfb.so
(II) Module wfb: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 1.5.3, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org ANSI C Emulation, version 0.4
(II) Loading sub module "ramdac"
(II) LoadModule: "ramdac"
(II) Module "ramdac" already built-in
(EE) No devices detected.

And the error message I get is the same as before:

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Any idea?

Thanks for your help and best regards

Please see the forum sticky posts about how to report a problem. Please also try the newly-released 180.25 which fixed a bug that caused certain GPUs to be unrecognized.
