I get the feeling that the fan on the GeForce FX is only activated/deactivated whenever the X server starts. This results in a) the fan not running at all and the card crashing once the heavy graphics starts followed by b) the fan always running and hurting my ears until the next reboot. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Can anybody confirm that? Or does it work for you? Is there some trick that I can do, or some XFree configuration I have to change to activate it? Thanks Dirk The system is a dual Athlon 1600 with a GFFX 5800 running Xfree 4.2.0 (Suse 8.0) and drivers 43.63. |

I have a 5800 Ultra with RedHat 9, and the only time the fan kicks on, aside from briefly when the machine starts up, is when a 3D app, such as glxgears is launched. Otherwise, in 2D, it never starts up.
