You mean $130 + $1000 more for overpriced Apple PC (not even available in configurations I need), as you cannot buy OS X without (having) Apple PC?

sure, but if you own a mac and want the newest OS, it will only cost you $130 instead of $400.

OEM Ultimate is $200.

I would probably pay like $5000 more for PC I have - aluminium case, quadcore @ 3.6GHz, GTX 280, 16 GB RAM, Adaptec PCIe RAID-5 SAS/SATA card (with 256MB onboard memory) w/ 4x 1TB drives, X-Fi, and 30" S-IPS LCD w/ myryads of inputs.

Speaking about price, that gives me 24 Windows 7 OEM Ultimate licenses for free :-) (comparing to similar Apple "Mac Pro" PC)

Ok. So I did make the calculation. My PC with quadcore CPU, 16GB RAM, Adaptec RAID-5 card, 4x1TB drives, Blu-Ray and DVD burners, 30" Dell S-IPS LCD, X-Fi card, Vista x64 Ultimate OEM, Logitech G9 kbd + G15 mouse was $5000. Those are European prices, much higher than US ones.

Similar configuration of Mac Pro brings me to $14 000 (!!), US pricing:

That means Apple PC, which is a bit worse than mine (have better GPU, faster CPU, BluRay burner, X-Fi, better keyboard, much better mouse, better monitor inputs, refresh rate and colors) is US$ 9 000 more.

That means I could buy 45 copies of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate OEM with my HW and still pay less (than for Apple PC) :-)

And I can also run 64bit Photoshop CS4, unlike Mac

Where are you getting these figures?

You do know that all the countries in Europe are not using euro currency?

There is actually a 2,750.00 difference(including VAT) with our british pounds and U.S dollars.

Exchange rate is the magic word And yes, I do take that into account when saying my PC purchased for US$ 5 000 would cost me US$ 14 000 when purchased from Apple.

Generally, HW in US is priced less than in Europe. Lookup some items on newegg vs. any German e-shop, and convert € to US$ using current exchange rate.

That is why the difference would be even bigger, ie. Mac Pro would cost even more than 14 000 US$ in Europe.

Yer, your paying about $10,000 extra for the Mac design alone.

I'd say my Coolermaster Stacker brushed aluminium case and Dell 3008WPF LCD are nicer
