Hello ... jAkUp ...
You may be happy with your new FOV as everyone has different tastes and sometimes the devs use a FOV that is too narrow for many.

That said I thought I would point out ... (you may know this but many will not ... I am not having a pop at you ... )
The width FOV should get wider the wider your screen gets ...
The height FOV should not change.

Your first image is 16:9 and so the FOV should be wider than the 16:10 in the second image.
16:10 is not as wide as 16:9 and so the width FOV should be smaller not the same.
An unfortunate use of words in FEAR 2 means that "Widescreen" forces 16:9 ...
By turning it off the FOV is correct for your screen ... scaling it horizontally to suit.

Hence it should go like this ...

FEAR 2 ... after it was fixed ...
5:4 ...

16:10 ...

TripleHead ...

Bioshock after it was fixed ...
5:4

TripleHead

Farcry after it was fixed ...
5:4

16:10

TripleHead

Each time the width FOV is wider the wider the screen the height does not change.

Very true, however a setting 70.7 sets the FOV intended by the developers, except with the black bars removed.

Well ... the developers intended everyone to view the game at 16:9 ...
Hence the forced 16:9 letterboxing.

16:10 is smaller by width not height and so the height FOV should not change.
Hence the FOV height did not change when the patch removed the letterboxing. (which I'm sure was also intended by the developer)

I'm not really being distracted by the shadows [or lack of] as the rest of it looks so good.

The sounds for weapons and explosions sound very neutered, but I'm on Vistas native drivers atm. That may change with the soundmax drivers re-installed.

Hmmm...

I dono, but to me the game feels kind of cluttered. Also the fact that I could not set the back/forward mouse buttons to the control made the game even worse for me. The original FEAR + the Extraction Point XP I liked, but this one, at least so far I don't like.

I don't feel in control too much nor really know what is going on. Could be because the controls are different, but them again - FEAR 1 and Extraction Point were both not a problem for me with the controls. There is sort of like a lack of feedback I guess. For me it seems.
