Default GeForce GTX 260 and 280 benchmarks up

Has anyone seen this yet? It looks like the GTX 280 is not a terrific leap over the current G92GPUs. I'm definitely disappointed with what I see. Let's hope they perform a lot better in current games! http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=286096

Yes because 3dmark scores = game performance!

3dmark scores mean absolutely nothing.

Ooops! It looks like there is a great thread below with more gaming benchmarks. I just thought I'd throw these results out there anyway.

I think I may pass on the GTS 280 and keep my 8800 GTs in SLI. They're still great performers. I don't think the GTX 280 will be worth the $649 price tag, let alone the inflated prices which we know the card will command when it actually releases.

I see 134% increase over the 9800GTX in the Extreme Vantage test... That would make it at least 100% faster than a 8800GTX! It's also 80% faster in the Performance test (Q6600@3Ghz here) If that translates into actual game increases... I'm so there. And that's for a single card. I very much doubt that the 4870x2 will scale without problems. So even if it's faster in an ideal situation, not all situations will be ideal...

G200 is plenty faster then g92. At first glance I didn't see too much difference, but by adding Anti aliasing in to the equation the difference was much more noticeable. With the 8800gt I had there was no problem gaming at 1680x1050, some times with a bit of AA. With the gtx 260 There's always room for higher AA modes

I went from a 8800 GTX to 295 GTX! Miles and miles difference in gaming. I can game any game (Crysis warhead included) at 1920 by 1200 res with 4X AA and 16X AF!!!

Edit: Well I sacrifice shadows on Crysis Warhead..and it's DX9 mode

F1 abandoned qualifying laps today as F1 official and utter pervert Mix Motley pronounced

Qualifying laps are pointless as they tell us nothing about real racing
Meanwhile real technicians know the value of benchmarking. Benchmarking lets you know whether you should change to wets when it's raining

Specifically-

You send your F1 car around the track and you time it

You tweak something and send the car around again. If it goes faster this time you got some extra performance. If it gets a slower lap time you learned something

The graphics card is the car, the benchmark is the track. Chicanes are the bottlenecks

The incorrect use of benchmarks is less useful. As in, the comparisons made between machines. Benchmarks are for testing and tweaking on one machine, comparing benchmark runs (laps) to benchmark runs on the same machine, not for attempting to make into some sort of competition across machines. Although of course the ultimate fastest machine times will always be something to aim at, we all like records and probably babes on the grid
