Does it use the FlowFX fan?

I have the Asus 5800 FX and the fan does indeed speed up. However, it is not that noticable unlike the flow fx. My temp seems to stay around 50C when playing games. The fan whirrs real loud then immediately spins down when windows starts to boot. The 5800 fx is a nice card. I'm willing to bet there won't be that much difference between the 5800 fx and the 5900 non-ultra.

The 5800 has a temperature sensor that is used to control the fan speed. When it gets hot, you'll here it start up. Just run 3dmark2003 with 10x repeat on or something to warm it up. At stock speed and a cool case it will hardly ever speed up. At Ultra speeds in certain games or apps it will start fairly quickly.

It looks like the Asus 5800 does NOT have the flowFX cooler- in fact, it looks much like the 5900. That being the case, I'm not sure what the fan strategy is for that particular card. Here is an image- Asus 5800 non-Ultra courtesy of Newegg.com. Is the core actually overheating?

You don't have the ultra/fxflow, you have the 5800 non ultra fan, if your other fans are normal to noisy you might not hear it.

Yep, In my tests, the fan appeared to turn on (speed up) only when the core reached about 80degC, which rarely happens unless you do some extreme OCing.

Same here, fan can only be heard if the card is really stressed. Run a demanding game at 8xAA/8xAF and it will eventualy start up due to increased strain.Don't worry, you card works fine.
