Hi Arthur,
I presume you mean that you've got a X display working but with the XFree driver rather than the NVidia one (and therefore no accelerated OpenGL)? Or have you actually got the NVidia driver working? I run RH9 with no problem on my X10 with the XFree nv driver for X. The problem with garbage on the console after you exit X was fixed with a tip from: http://www.creative-sadness.de/cgi-b...l?Site=samsung What I am still very frustrated about is that I can't run accelerated OpenGL on my nice graphics card..... still waiting for an updated driver from NVidia along with many others. Andy. |

About the link you included, how do you fix the "garbage" if using GRUB instead of LILO?. BTW, are you originally from Oxford?. I've lived and worked there (Churchill Hospital in Headington) for a while, and visit it whenever I fly to the UK. Regards, Arthur ![]()

Hi Arthur,
With grub, just add vga=791 to your kernel line in /etc/grub.conf. I've got: kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi vga=791 all on one line. This sets a different screen mode for the console which means that it will come back after you leave X (though sometimes it is shifted to the side --- can sometimes fix with Fn-F4 I think). I'm not originally from Oxford but work here in the university. By the way I often visit Madrid (my wife's family is there)... they have just got a place in El Escorial, not far from Navacerrada I believe... Andy. |

Thanks again, Andy,
That is quite a nice coincidence!. Don't think twice before calling for a beer if youˇve got the time. The reason why I asked you about Oxford is that I got my degree in Physics from St Andrews Uni. and then went on to Strathclyde for an MSc in Telecomms. After all those years in Scotland, and except for a month in London, I went back to the UK in 97' to work for the NHS in Oxford. I then started working in IT and worked in beautiful Slough for a while, so fled to Oxford as often as I could. I fell in love with the place (surprise, surprise). Please do let me know whether I may be of help with messages to nVidia or otherwise. Cheers, Arthur

I do know this won't resolve our issues, but at least some useful information has been put together:
Linux for a Samsung X10 Centrino Laptop I am sure we'll succeed... with some good attitudes from Intel and nVidia Regards, Arthur1968
