I was just getting ready to fire this up and when I sat down what I saw on TV were some Russians walking around on the polar ice cap after breaking through in their cold war era submarine. Seems fitting. lol Off to try this game out now...............

Here's an assortment to show the art style, lighting and texturing. Very impressive so far.

To help performance try turning anisotropic filtering off in game. Some scenes go from 20fp to 30fps when I do that and I can't see any difference, though filtering is maybe not so noticeable in small rooms. Going to shader 3.0 gives a large gain, though like in Clear Sky the higher quality light is subtle but impressive. Going to medium in shadows is another good one, as all it does is go to hard shadows rather than soft, but that kinda spoils the awesome lighting. So far I've been playing with filtering off and the rest cranked up. I was going to install my 8800GTX for a physx board but there is no room with my drives. Might go buy a cheap GPU this week and see if that fits. With an Antec 650w I may not have the juice for an 8800 anyway.

I think I'll hold off on this one until I get my hands on a GT300.

It looks really cool, and I like to see games in all their glory.

The graphics look pretty good but the gameplay is what interests me.

This game is all about atmosphere, which is some of the best I've experienced due to the awesome sound design and effects. I'd say anybody who says the graphics suck hasn't played the actual game. For example those frost growths on the wall are not just textures, those are raised off the surface just as they would be in real life, and when you fire up a heat source like a generator you get to watch the frost start to get slushy and shiny wet as it slowly and most awesomely melts and begins to run down the wall, until the wall is just running water, and finally the walls become dry. If you go outside the room with the heat source the other side of the door/wall will be partially melted from the heat inside. To top it off the artistic style is pretty much second to none, and I love stylized games. Crysis for example has no style to me as it's just an attempt at photoreal, so it's quite bland to me. Cryostasis is packed full of style. I just wish performance wasn't so bad.
