Which is the one to get? Both are within £1 of each other at my usual supplier. This is what I want out of them;
-Controlled, smooth sound at med to high volume -Bass that doesn't boom at upper bass frequencies -Nice clear treble -Some basic sound adjustments (bass, treble) If you have any others to suggest in a similar price range, please do. TIA ![]() |

I think it sounds pretty good paired with a good sound card, but you might not have as many adjustments as you might be looking for. I'm assuming when you say bass doesn't boom at high frequencies you mean it doesn't hit at 100hz+. If you want to adjust something like that it is probably better to have a sound card with those adjustments. ![]() That's on a creative X-FI. I don't think the normal setting is bad, but I'm sure preferences might differ. I think it sounds pretty clear and it is very powerful so even at half volume it sounds great and is plenty loud. Normal listening for me is about 1/4 of the way up. A couple of other nice features on it is the ability to adjust the surround, night mode so if you are trying to watch something at night it levels out the sound so there is less of a gap between loud and soft. It has the ability to input 6 channel analog, or 3 2 channel inputs by flipping a switch in the back. It also has another line in on the side that can be blended with any of the other analog inputs. (Could have a microphone plugged into it or in my case the VCR.) It has optical and coax digital audio, and will decode Dolby Digital, Dolby DTS, or just 2 channel PCM. If you want to listen to headphones it also has a headphone jack on the side, and once you plug headphones in it mutes the speakers. What is really nice about this is I have my PS3 hooked up to the optical port, so I don't have to come up with a fancy way to use headphones and play the PS3. The big volume knob still adjusts the volume so it is very easy to adjust volume. |

Cheers for the input
So what would you recommend for all round use including HT for £300 max? EDIT: Or should I really keep saving and get a better 5.1 amp and speakers. Are Yamaha still doing good cheapish 5.1 amps? BTW, my room is about 6x5m and i'm smack in the middle with the screen in the center, so the speakers will be well spread out. |

What would you say it would cost for a reasonable HT setup?
My mate has a Yamaha amp and Mission 5.1 speakers that sound awesome and cost about £800 but I wasn't really looking to spend that. |
