Default Re: Monkey Island...

Played for 2 hours yesterday (finished the 3 trials of the pirate bosses) and I couldn't love the game more. I played the original so many years ago, and this game brings back the memories again.

At first I didn't like the improved graphics, but after a couple of minutes I got captured in the game (again) and I forgot it. Now I find them very nice, however I find myself pushing F10 in every screen to compare. BTW the transition is very well done, I like they way LucasArts has implemented it.

However control is not very good, I don't like that actions and inventory are hidden, and it doesn't feel responsive. The cursor feels a bit weird sometimes, when I had to learn the swears for the SwordMaster it was a bit difficult to click on the right answer.

Once you are used to it, this game is a must have, if you played the original you will love this one, and if you didn't, buy it and learn how a good adventure game must be.

Thanks LucasArts!

Found a spot in the screen at the swords masters in MI:SE that they either forgot to paint over, or left in its original huge pixel state.
Wonder which it is.
EDIT: Oh and there is the face of manny from Grim Fandango in a screen aswell, thought that was a pretty nice reference.

Overall its pretty nice, but IŽd really like to play with old graphics and new added dialog.
The bit where you bring some grog to a place, I went over and did that with the old graphics cause of ease of access to the UI and inventory.

I prefer MI3's interface and controls the best. MISE's controls were horrible. at least they could have assigned the middle mouse button to bring up the items menu!

The SE was built for the console, first and foremost... it works very well on a 360 pad.

Next weekend I'll be back home and first thing I'll do is to buy it on 360 and start playing.

I hope Lucasart's going to remake Full Throttle next or Indiana Jones Fate of Atlantis.

I tried playing Tales with a 360 controller, then switched back to mouse and keyboard, then I noticed that there were a bunch of stuff, like signs and stuff, that I had missed playing with the controller.
So doing that seems a lot harder and makes it very easy to miss stuff cause you arent facing them just right.

With a bit of practice you'll be good at using a controller.

Thought this was pretty spot on, about the controls in MI:SE from kotakus "micro review"

It's a messy problem to face in 2009, especially when you can just hit F10 and be reminded that they did things better back in 1990.

I have to agree. I love the MI:SE game but OMG the interface just blows. The mouse clicks don't work or are off most of the time, the inventory pop up is terrible especially if you have to use something in the inventory on something in your inventory. You can't keep an interface window open like the old MI had on all the time which really drives me nuts. I mean how hard could it be for them to just have it so that you press and hold shift and the commands box comes up and stays up till you let go of the shift button, similarly the control button could do the same but for the inventory. Then put little pins on the windows if you want them permanently on the screen for a while.
