Started playing and having fun so far. However, the forest looks so bland and unrealstic for some reason...

I really like the SE... it is pretty much what I have been begging for with classic old games, a rerelease with enhancements that still plays and generally looks the same, but "better" enough to make replaying more enjoyable.

That said, I definately prefer the old music.

I want to buy this, but I'm curious... is it possible to play the game as it was originally meant to be played (original art and music), except with voice acting?

I like the look of the original, but voices make adventure games a lot better.

Bought it along with Loom and Indy Atlantis. I should have also picked up Indy last crusade also but I forgot to put it in the cart so it'll have to wait. I like it though there are 2 things I dislike, and that is with the original graphics I can't get the voice acting, and with the updated graphics you don't have the option to just leave open the interface. The latter makes the game feel really consolized cause I want to press the button to do the use stuff rather than press 'I' then use the scroll wheel on the mouse to pick use then select the thing in my inventory.

I found the guy advertising LOOM funny

I already bought it.

Dammit. Nothing sucks money out of my bank account like independent developers and adventure games.

Yeah adventure gaming has definitely seen a bit of a revival over the past 3-4 years. Some of the games I've played have really surprised me.

Yahtzee's adventure games are fantastic. The entire "Trilby" or "Chzo" series are excellent... as is Adventures in the Galaxy of Fantabulous Wonderment.

The Sam & Max games are good.

The Penumbra games are good.

Safecracker was a lot of fun for a puzzle\adventure game.

Indigo Prophecy was good.

Call of Cthulhu was was awesome.

Dreamfall wasn't as good as The Longest Journey (I doubt any adventure game will be for quite some time) but it was still a good game.

And there are several other recent adventure games that I either own (The Experiment, Culpa Innata, Runaway) or have plans to buy (too many to list).

I don't think the overall quality of the games is as good as it was in the early and mid 90s but there are a ton of games that are definitely worth playing, and 4+ years ago I never would have expected the genre to come back in any form.

Default Re: Monkey Island...

I was mainly thinking of the revival of Sam & max, and how that prolly led up to what we got now, new monkey island, re-release of monkey island 1, releases of windows compatible Loom, The Dig, Indiana jones x2.
All of which I bought I may add, working my way through Loom when MI:SE hit and put that on hold

I think the general belief has been that you cant spend money on these games since they´re dead and noone will buy them, but the success of Sam and Max clearly turned some people around at lucasarts, and now Tales of MI has been dominating the steam sales and doing pretty good in other venues aswell I guess.
