Default Sceptre X32BV-FullHD over HDMI 1080p Black Screen

I am currently running 180.29 via an HDMI cable on HDMI Port 1 of the Monitor. The Motherboard is an ASUS M3N78-PRO. The video chipset is GeForce 8300. The OS is Ubuntu 8.10 kernel 2.6.27-11-generic on an AMD64 AM2 CPU (dual core).

The Xserver appears to initialize correctly and the monitor reports that 1920x1080p mode is being set on HDMI1.

However, the screen remains black. Occasionally, it will flash a brief moment of the X interface, but then goes back to black. The system is still responsive and can shut down the X server to try new settings.

If there is additional info needed to track this problem down, please let me know.

Regards,

-Travis

Hi,

look at my "self-discussion" and see if that helps(last post)

Thanks for the reply, but it seems your problem is slightly different. My display is 100% black 100% of the time. On the rare occasion while starting the Xserver, the display will show the desktop for a fraction of a second, then will return to black. Once it has displayed the black screen, it will never display any video again.

Stopping the Xserver with CTRL-ALT-BS will let me get back to the console to make xorg.conf changes. So the machine is not frozen.

Additionally, I can get the display to work via the VGA connector. It is only the HDMI port that is causing issues.

Regards,

-Travis

I am not 100% sure but this could something have to do with the EDID. Your TV could handle the corrupt stream (or whatever this problem causes) other than mine.
With you VGA connector you don't get the full extended EDID, only the half of it (128 bytes). You could try it if you don't need sound from HDMI (I use Optical in).

Regards,
Sascha

EDIT: You could try to play a sound file through your HDMI output and your display should turn on again.

It Sounds like you are experiencing my problem.

Have a look at my post here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=123440

I have tried the latest drivers v180.37 but it persists. NO HDMI Video out. Using DVI or VGA which worked, to my TV was not an option. (HDMI/DVI/VGA Video out Works under Windows) HDMI/DVI/VGA Video out Works under Ubuntu with old drivers as per my post above.

Gave up as the IGP 8200 also caused SATA disconnect errors when the disks were heavily used, using modern NVIDIA drivers and LCD monitor on DVI/VGA output. Causes major DATA corruption etc.

Bought an Add-in 9400GT PCIE and all my problems went away. HDMI VIDEO out works. No more SATA errors with the IGP 8200 disabled. (See SATA Post:http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=126152)

As a bonus, the 9400GT (Passive cooled) Temperature is a constant 52 Deg Celc whereas the 8200IGP (Passive cooled) used to be 72~76 Deg Celcius.

Good luck
