Default VDPAU mplayer error 23

When trying to play a particular H264 sample with mplayer, it gives an error 23. Mplayer plays the file perfectly using the software codec.

I have attached an archive containing mplayer outputs with hardware/software decoding, plus a nvidia-bug-report.

As there doesn't appear to be any nvidia upload website for sample clips, I have hosted it on rapidshare here: http://rapidshare.com/files/207508946/sample.mkv.html

Please do not follow this link if you aren't a nvidia dev, as I believe rapidshare only allows ten downloads.

If anyone knows of a better place to upload the clip I'd be happy to do so.

You're simply running out of video memory.

256MB is not enough?! Is there anything I can do to help the problem? I already have all desktop effects and composite extension disabled, what else could be taking up video memory?

I will also try the latest mplayer svn.

You could try running this to free up some memory:

nvidia-settings -a PixmapCache=0 -a GlyphCache=0

Also, try exiting any/all other applications to see if they're hogging video memory for some reason.

Or you could open second XServer session which flush "screen 0" from gfx card to system memory and you will have full gfx card memory without compositing manager running over it and you don't need to kill COMPIZ every time you will wan't to play video.
It have only one bad issue - terrible tearing:
Code:
gksudo xhost +; sudo xinit -e /usr/bin/mplayer -vc ffh264vdpau -vo vdpau -softvol -ass -vf-clr -fs -fontconfig -overlapsub -subfont-autoscale 1 -embeddedfonts -ffactor 10 "video[1080p].mp4" -- :1 -depth 24 -ac -nolisten tcp -a 2

Well after a reboot it inexplicably started working again.

If it fails again I'll try the pixmap cache clear thing.
