Default [bug report] 180.37 corruption/freeze on Firefox scrolling

I posted this to the "180.* graphical corruption and freezes system" thread, but as that is very long and I don't know how often NVidia developers check it, I wanted to make sure this didn't get lost. Apologies for the duplicate information if this is not the correct procedure here.

For me, the corruption/freeze happens at random when mouse-wheel scrolling in Firefox. I used to get a freeze with no corruption and after a minute or two the system becomes responsive again with 180.29. Since upgrading to 180.37 I've been getting a freeze, followed by corruption, window decorations disappearing, and a hard lock up -- I can't even ssh into my system from another machine at that point. I get this as the last thing in /var/log/messages before I reset the box (via reset button):

Code:
Mar 10 11:00:31 joehome NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 8, Channel 00000001
Mar 10 11:00:32 joehome NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 13, 0003 00000000 00008397 00001310 00000000 00000040

I get this in Xorg.0.log:

Code:
[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.

This is followed by many repeats of:

Code:
[mi] mieqEnequeue: out-of-order valuator event; dropping.
[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.
I am attaching a bug report from after a reboot as I have no way of getting one once the crash has happened. I'm running compiz 0.7.8 on Gnome 2.24, Gentoo 2008.0 X86_64, 2.6.28.7 vanilla kernel.

Just glancing at your log file out of curiosity I noted that your Xorg.0.log file
gives EE for not being able to load libfreetype.so. This is part of the xorg-x11-server
package (not finding type1 is ok). So, either you are missing some parts of xorg
or the module pathway is not correct. On my system (Fedora 9) it is in:

/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/fonts/libfreetype.so

I install the nvidia drivers by hand via:

./nvidia-installer -a -n --ui=none --x-prefix=/usr/lib64 --x-module-path=/usr/lib6/xorg/modules

perhaps this is your problem since Firefox uses truetype fonts.

The crash happened again, this time I was able to ssh in so the bug report matches the crash. Since the first report came out compiz 0.8.2 became available so I upgraded to that.

@sambo57u, thanks, but ldd shows that my Xorg binary links directly to libfreetype.so.6 (and finds it in /usr/lib) so it shouldn't need to load it as a module. Firefox and other applications have no problems accessing TTF fonts so I don't think that's an issue. Other have reported issues related to Firefox scrolling.

Hi, my Xorg is linked to /usr/lib64/libfreetype.so.6 as well but the module in
/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/fonts/libfreetype.so is not the same and it is
automatically found and loaded by X, so they being different,
I wonder why yours is not picked up if it is there!
